At Summit Animal Hospital, we believe veterinary care should feel personal. As a privately owned and independently operated veterinary practice, we are able to focus on what matters most: providing excellent care for your pets while building lasting relationships with the families who trust us with their care.
Under the ownership of Kelly Kontur, DVM, Summit Animal Hospital continues to provide state-of-the-art diagnostics and veterinary medicine in a warm, personalized environment. Because we are independently owned, our decisions are made with our patients and our community in mind—not by a corporate parent. This allows us to maintain the personal feel of a small-town practice while providing the high-quality medicine and advanced care your pets deserve. We also believe in keeping veterinary care accessible, without the corporate pricing structure that can come with larger veterinary organizations.
Dr. Kontur has deep roots in Summit Animal Hospital and in the Northfield Center community. She has known many of her clients and their families for years and is proud to care for generations of pets within the community. Her goal is to continue growing the practice while preserving what makes an independent veterinary hospital special: knowing our clients, knowing their pets, and treating every patient as an individual.
A TRADITION OF CARE
Summit Animal Hospital's story began in 1989, when Margaret Cumming, DVM founded the practice in Northfield Center, Ohio. For more than 25 years, Dr. Cumming grew Summit Animal Hospital while providing state-of-the-art veterinary care and developing the personal relationships that became the foundation of the practice.
Dr. Kontur's own journey at Summit began in 2004, when she joined the hospital as a kennel worker. With the support and encouragement of Dr. Cumming—including a recommendation letter for veterinary school—Dr. Kontur went on to attend The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated with honors.
After veterinary school, Dr. Kontur returned to Summit Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in 2014. In 2017, Dr. Cumming sold the practice to Dr. Kontur, allowing her to carry its legacy forward while building its future.
Today, Summit Animal Hospital remains committed to the same values that have guided the practice from the beginning: exceptional veterinary medicine, personal relationships, and genuine care for the pets and families who call our community home. We look forward to continuing that tradition for generations to come.
